A 1.9 million pound power generator is beginning its slow journey across western South Carolina.
The state Department of Transportation said the generator would be taken off a boat at a Jasper County port Friday and driven through the state into North Carolina over the next month.
Two hydraulic trailers will move the load at speeds between 5 mph and 20 mph. Officials say they will try to drive at night as much as possible, and the trip could take up to 30 days.
The route includes about a dozen counties and goes through cities like Allendale, Barnwell, Aiken, Saluda, Greenwood, Greenville and Travelers Rest before leaving the state near Chesnee.
