Funeral services for Ashlie Pipkin, the Sumter child who died after having flulike symptoms, are scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Laurence Manning Academy at 1937 Old Georgetown Road in Manning.
Pipkin, 11, died Wednesday en route from Sumter to Palmetto Health Richland. Autopsy results have yet to be released, but a preliminary test Tuesday indicated Pipkin had the flu, health officials said. She also suffered from asthma and was diagnosed Tuesday as having pneumonia.
Pipkin was the daughter of Mark Anthony Pipkin and Brandie Cheree Barfield Pipkin. She was a fifth-grade student at Laurence Manning and an avid softball player.
