BISHOPVILLE - A private school in the Pee Dee is closing for the remainder of the week after one-fifth of its student body was out sick.
The head of school at Robert E. Lee Academy said the school will close Wednesday through Friday for a thorough cleaning. Phillip Rizzo said 16 percent to 20 percent of the school's 540 students in pre-K through high school had been absent this week.
He said students were suffering from flulike illnesses, stomach viruses and sore throats. None of the students from the school had been hospitalized.
Rizzo said the school's Friday football game has been rescheduled and that makeup days will be held in the spring.
