The Rev. Woodie White, Bishop-in-Residence at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, will be the guest Thursday at the annual Eben Taylor Memorial Lectures on Love and Justice.
The 10 a.m. lecture "Embodying The Ministry of Love and Justice" will be at College Place United Methodist Church, 4801 Colonial Drive. A discussion will follow.
White, recently retired from the Indiana Area Conference of the United Methodist Church, was a civil rights activist and served for 15 years as general secretary of the church's General Commission on Religion and Race and in 1996-97 was president of the Council of Bishops. Bishop White is the author of three books, "Racial Transition in the Church," "Confessions of a Prairie Pilgrim," and "Conversations of the Heart."
Since 1976, he has written an annual personal letter to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. White was a close friend of The Rev. Eben Taylor, a former district superintendent of the S.C. Annual Conference., for whom the lectures are named.
