Two people were injured and taken to a Columbia hospital after an early Sunday morning fire at the Richland Terrace apartments on 1212 Metze Road.
Columbia interim fire chief Aubrey Jenkins said neither smoke-inhalation injury was life-threatening. No firefighters were hurt.
About $70,000 worth of damage was done to six apartments, but the cause of the blaze is unknown, Jenkins said.
“We know where the fire started — in a bathroom vent — but we don’t know why it started,” said Jenkins.
The local American Red Cross is taking care of 13 people displaced by the fire.
“We’re providing lodging, food and clothing to eight adults and five children, one of whom is an infant,” said local Red Cross representative Susan Benesh.
