A group of robbers holding up local hotels begins the stickup with one man asking about room rates.
He pretends to dig through his pockets looking for identification and then pulls out a handgun, according to a Columbia Police Department report.
Columbia police and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said three hotels have been robbed this way in the past week, and they are asking for help in finding the suspects.
After the first man pulls a gun, the other suspects take the cash register drawers, according to police. All flee in one vehicle.
The latest robbery was committed at 4:15 a.m. Friday at a Holiday Inn Express off Clemson Road. The suspects fled in a dark green and tan Chevrolet Silverado with a chrome tool box in the truck bed, according to video surveillance.
Holdups also happened at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday at the Courtyard Marriott on Zimalcrest Drive in Lexington County and at 1 a.m. Wednesday at a Best Western on East Exchange in Columbia.
Anyone with information on the robberies should call Midlands Crimestoppers at (888) 274-6372.
