Lake Carolina Elementary principal James Ann Lynch notified parents by email Friday that she is leaving the school for a new job.
Starting July 1, Lynch will be director of elementary schools in Lexington District 1.
The acting principal will be Andrea Berry.
“These past 12 years in District Two have been the best 12 years of my professional life,” the email said. “Opening Lake Carolina with you has been the highlight of my career.”

Former Gov. David Beasley has joined the board of trustees of Columbia International University.
Beasley, who served as governor from 1995-1999, has been a longtime friend of CIU President Bill Jones and active in Christian mission outreach, said spokesman Bob Holmes.
Beasley will be one of 15 members of the board of trustees. His appointment was approved at the May meeting and he will attend his first board session in October, Holmes said.

Canal trails to close for bridge construction
Pedestrian trails along the Columbia Canal will be closed periodically, beginning Monday and continuing through June 28, as the Department of Transportation completes a bridge replacement project along U.S. 176.
The trails will be closed at various times between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. as the work is ongoing. Rea Contracting will post closing schedules at the entrances to Riverfront Park, and flaggers will be assigned to assist pedestrian traffic flow.
The lower pedestrian trail at the bridge crossing was closed last week and will remain closed through the end of the contract in May 2013.
