A soldier from South Carolina has been killed in combat in Afghanistan.
Sgt. 1st Class John H. Jarrell, 32, of Brunson, was killed Thursday when an improvised explosive device hit his unit in Kandahar, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Monday. Jarrell was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division.
Brunson is in Hampton County and is south of the town of Allendale.
Another soldier in his unit, Sgt. Leston M. Winters, 30, of Sour Lake, Texas also died in the attack, the defense department said.
