The S.C. Department of Corrections is searching for a minimum security inmate who walked away from Walden Correctional Institution this morning.
Larry Coles Jr., 27, walked away from the unfenced minimum-security institution, at 4340 Broad River Rd. in Columbia, about 5 a.m., the department said in a news release Sunday.
Coles started serving a five-year sentence for trafficking methamphetamine in July 2009. He was convicted in Florence County.
Coles is black; has brown eyes; black hair; stands 5 feet 6 inches tall; and weighs about 155 pounds. He has a "puff" tattoo on his upper right arm, and a an "L" on his upper left arm. He was last seen wearing shorts and a long sleeve T-shirt.
The Corrections Department is working with local law enforcement on search and apprehension efforts.
