Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy Starr Greene has been named deputy of the year by Sheriff Leon Lott.
Greene works out of the S.C. Probation, Parole and Pardon office in Columbia where she serves as a liaison between the two agencies. Greene helps identify wanted suspects, gang members and sex offenders.
Greene worked as probation officer until she was laid off due to state budget cuts. Lott hired her in January 2009. The liaison position was created in April. Since then, Greene has arrested more than 100 people, served more than 150 warrants, located more than 150 sex offenders and interviewed 29 gang members.
Greene emulates everything that a deputy should be, Lott said. The award was presented Saturday night during the department’s annual Christmas party.
