Columbia native and NASA administrator Charles Bolden will visit Lake City this morning to dedicate a center to a fellow astronaut who died on a space mission.
Bolden will help dedicate the Dr. Ronald E. McNair Life History Center near downtown Lake City. Also on hand will be Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and McNair’s widow, Cheryl.
McNair, 35, was one of seven crew members aboard the space shuttle Challenger when it blew up in January 1986, 73 seconds after liftoff.
Bolden has said he was inspired by McNair to become an astronaut.
