The S.C. Criminal Justice Academy on Wednesday will celebrate a $14.5 million expansion that will allow it to increase the amount of time new police officers spend in training.
The expansion will add a gym, a kitchen, a dining hall and six classrooms as well as a four-story, 208-bed dormitory. The new area will be called the Village, the academy has announced.
As a result of the expansion, the state’s basic law enforcement training class will become a 12-week program instead of nine weeks.
Gov. Nikki Haley will speak during the 11:30 a.m. ceremony for the grand opening.
