Two Richland County sheriff’s deputies were recognized Friday for winning medals at a recent international Olympics for police and firefighters.
Cornell Young and Amy Hartland took six medals between them at the 2011 World Police and Fire Games in New York. Thousands of law enforcement officers and firefighters from around the world participated, which makes Young and Hartland’s achievements notable, Lott said Friday.
Young won a gold medal in the 110 meter hurdles and a silver in the 400 meter hurdles. Hartland won silver medals in four swimming events: the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyles and the 50 and 100 meter butterfly races.
Hartland is a former swimmer at the University of South Carolina. Young is a 2005 USC graduate. The World Police and Fire Games is a not-for-profit organization that remembers people who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
