The Harry Hampton Visitor Center at Congaree National Park will open a little later starting Oct. 1, and its shortened winter schedule will begin a little earlier.
The park announced Thursday that the visitor center will open at 9 a.m. year-round starting next month, a half hour later than in recent years. The center will close at 5 p.m. daily from Oct. 1 through March 31. When days get longer starting in April, the hours will be extended to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
The visitor center in the past matched its longer weekend hours with the changes to and from daylight savings time, and the extended days included Sundays.
Of course, visitors can explore the park’s 26 miles of hiking trails and 2.5-mile boardwalk 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
