Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands continued its outreach to the Latino community by translating its entire website into Spanish.
The non-profit, which provides counseling and other services to sexual assault victims, used Spanish-speaking volunteers and the USC School of Law’s pro bono program to make sure the translations were accurate and made sense, executive director Ginny Waller said Monday. The website was launched last week at www.stsm.org/es.
Sexual Trauma Services made outreach into the Latino community one of its priorities about two years ago. In 2008, zero Hispanics turned to the center for help. In 2010, 44 Spanish-speakers were helped, Waller said. The agency serves Richland, Lexington, Newberry and Sumter counties.
