People with outstanding warrants against them for misdemeanor cases in Richland County magistrates’ courts can come in voluntarily, pay a fine and get their case disposed of without penalty on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Persons willing to enroll in the program – called Fresh Start – should call (803) 576-3167 or (803) 576-3042 to be scheduled for a court appearance at 1400 Huger St., Central Traffic Court, next week.
Sheriff Leon Lott said the program saves his department money. “We don’t have to spend money and time going out and trying to round up these folks.”
Last year, 373 warrants were cleared in a three-day Fresh Start. Offenses included in the limited amnesty include traffic violations, shoplifting and bad checks.
