A street on the University of South Carolina’s campus closed for more than an hour Wednesday afternoon after a minor gas leak was found.
USC police, the Columbia-Richland Fire Department and SC E&G all responded to the intersection of Devine and Park streets after a small gas line break shortly after noon, fire department spokesman Brick Lewis said.
Park Street was closed between Blossom and Greene streets while crews worked to stop the leak. Firefighters monitored the air quality at the nearby Carolina Coliseum, which houses classrooms.
The leak was patched by 1:38 p.m., according to a university alert. There was no threat to the Carolina Coliseum or other surrounding university buildings, the alert stated.
