About 450 people, including Gov. Nikki Haley and Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, are expected at this morning’s53rd annual S.C. State Prayer Breakfast. The 7:30 a.m. event at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, 2100 Bush River Road, is similar to the National Prayer Breakfast. It draws Christians from across the Midlands to pray for national, state and local leaders.
This year’s keynote speaker is Tom Hutchinson III, a senior executive in the hospitality and financial services industry. Oran P. Smith, director of Palmetto Family Council, will serve as master of ceremonies. Bob Crutchfield, one of the organizers with the S.C. Prayer Fellowship, said a few tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are $20.
