The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has unveiled Permit Central, a new initiative that simplifies the process for obtaining health and environmental permits, the agency announced Thursday.
Gov. Nikki Haley joined agency director Catherine Templeton in describing the initiative as something that will speed businesses’ progression through the permitting process.
Permit Central will feature a team of specialists with expertise ranging from air to solid waste to health care to talk with applicants about what approvals are necessary. A separate team will address challenges faced by small businesses. An interactive website will offer information, application forms, tips and a database that allows customers to check the status of their application. A board review committee, consisting of three of seven DHEC board members, will expedite the review process for challenges to agency actions.
