Richland County has launched a campaign to crack down on illegal dumping.
The improper disposal of waste at any location other than a landfill or collection site poses a threat to human health and the environment.
Materials that typically are dumped illegally are: construction and demolition debris such as drywall, shingles, lumber and bricks; large appliances; abandoned vehicles, parts and tires; furniture; household garbage; and medical waste.
Anyone convicted of illegal dumping may be fined, ordered to clean up the site and given a jail sentence.
Never miss a local story.
If you see illegal dumping as it’s happening, or spot an open dump in Richland County, report it by calling (803) 929-6000.
