A car stolen Thursday afternoon from a convenience store with a 5-year-old inside was recovered with the child unharmed, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Department said.
About 4:10 p.m. a man was seen taking a Jeep Patriot from the Circle K at the intersection of Banks Mill Road and East Pine Log Road, the sheriff’s department said. The child was in the back seat. The vehicle was recovered at the intersection of Banks Mill and Wildhaven Drive with the child safe, the department said.
A suspect identified as Joseph Bryan Johnson was arrested after Aiken County deputies, officers from the Aiken Department of Public Safety and the Aiken County bloodhound team cordoned off the area and began a search.
The search, and information from witnesses, led them to 500 block of Wildhaven Drive where Johnson was taken into custody.
