Dogs might be man’s best friend, but one local pup has several new best friends in Richland County firefighters and paramedics.
Firefighters responded to a blaze on the 8000 block of Songbird Drive just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Columbia Fire Department. Heavy smoke and fire were visible at the one-story home.
No injuries have been reported, but firefighters rescued a dog from the blaze, according to the fire department. It was unclear where in the home the dog was, but two firefighters found the K-9 unresponsive.
Richland County EMS and firefighters resuscitated the dog using a special pet oxygen kit, and the fire department said the dog is OK.
Firefighters have knocked down the blaze and are still working hot spots. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still unclear.
