An event that invites young community members to take on deputies in a game of basketball is set to take place on Saturday.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is playing host to the event on Saturday at St. Andrews Park on Beatty Road off Broad River Road. It’s the second time the sheriff’s department plays host to the event, after having a successful first run in 2016, said Sgt. Brittany Jackamonis, spokeswoman for the agency.
The event aims to build a relationship between law enforcement and the county’s youth. The inaugural tournament was held at North Springs Park on Clemson Road in the Northeastern part of the county in 2016. The sheriff’s department hopes to hold subsequent events throughout the county to continue to reach its young residents.
Saturday’s tournament will offer free food, drinks, music and games for children of all ages, including a bouncy house, Jackamonis said.
Never miss a local story.
Those who want to play in the tournament, who are between 14 and 18 years old, have to register with Jackamonis, who can be reached at 803-576-3013.
