Police are searching for the driver of a car that struck a pedestrian downtown then drove away.
Columbia police reported a 27-year-old woman was walking on the 1200 block of Taylor Street just before midnight when a speeding car in the westbound lane struck her. The impact of the collision caused her to fall to the ground, according to police.
Police reported the driver is accused of not stopping or rendering aid to the victim.
Lula Drake Wine Parlour, 1635 Main St., identified the victim as employee Kaylen Harris.

According to a post on the business’ Facebook page, Harris had finished her shift and was struck by a car while crossing the street.
The post also stated Harris was transported to Palmetto Health Richland hospital, and her injuries required surgery.
