A Lexington County man was killed and a second person critically injured after a car hit a tree late Saturday.
The crash happened around 9:40 p.m. on Willow Forks Road, according to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol. That’s off Platt Springs Road, just outside the Red Bank area.
A 2003 Chevrolet SUV was traveling north on Willow Forks Road when the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and hit a tree, Collins said.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher on Sunday identified the driver as 33-year-old Marty Shealy Jr., of Batesburg-Leesville. Fisher said Shealy was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene from his injuries.
Never miss a local story.
A passenger in the SUV, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Fisher said.
