Paving between Rosewood Drive and National Guard Road this weekend is one of the last stages of work on the Bluff Road widening project.
Two driving lanes will remain open while the paving is done from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday through Monday. But drivers should expect slow-moving traffic.
The months-long road widening project on Bluff Road alongside the S.C. State Fairgrounds and Williams-Brice Stadium should wrap up in time for the University of South Carolina’s first home football game next month, Richland County transportation officials say.
The project should be “substantially completed” by Monday, Aug. 28 and not interfere with traffic by the time the Gamecocks host the University of Kentucky on Sept. 16, according to David Beaty, program manager for the Richland County Transportation Penny program.
Never miss a local story.
The end result of the widening project will be two driving lanes going in either direction, a center turn lane and multi-use paths on either side, running from Rosewood Drive to George Rogers Boulevard. Power and utility lines also have been buried underground along that stretch.
