One person was killed and two others injured when a pickup hit a moped near Swansea.
Jessica Lynn Dunn, 26, was identified as the individual who died, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
The crash happened around 2:10 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 321 near Toole Smith Road, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
A moped and a 2005 Dodge pickup were traveling south on U.S. 321 when the pickup hit the moped from behind, Southern said. Two people on the moped were ejected.
The moped driver, Zachery Wingard of Gaston, was not wearing a helmet and was airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland, Southern said. His condition was unknown.
Dunn, the passenger seated behind Wingard on the moped, was wearing a helmet but died at the scene, Southern said. Dunn died because of multiple traumatic injuries.
The pickup driver, Gerald Lundy of Neeses, was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to Palmetto Health Richland, Southern said. His condition was not available Sunday.
No charges had been filed as of Sunday. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
