For the 25th year, two Columbia churches are coming together to make sure everyone has a hot turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
Media outlets report St. Peter’s Catholic Church and First Baptist Church of Columbia expect to serve nearly 2,000 people Thursday.
Organizer Robert Keeder says volunteers from St. Peters have cooked 150 turkeys. The Baptist volunteers will serve up the sides, including mashed potatoes, green beans and stuffing. Volunteers from both churches will make and deliver desserts.
Keeder says organizers want to make sure everyone displaced by the flood joins in the festivities.
Never miss a local story.
Organizers say volunteers will also deliver more than 1,000 meals to people in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
The dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Carolina Coliseum, Assembly Street entrance.
