Richland County deputies are investigating a shooting that wounded one early Friday morning.
Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said deputies responded to the 1000 block of George Rogers Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. in response to Columbia firefighters meeting with a gunshot wound victim.
Lawrence said deputies met with the victim and two witnesses who were attempting to take the victim to the hospital. The witnesses told deputies they were at a field near the intersection of Windy Drive and Mellowood Drive when the shooting occurred, striking the victim at least once in the lower body.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated. Lawrence said the victim’s condition is currently unknown.
