Firefighters evacuated a hotel near the University of South Carolina early Sunday morning because of an electrical malfunction.
The Columbia Fire Department got a call about a power outage at Courtyard Columbia Downtown at USC about 1:30 a.m., department spokesman Capt. Brick Lewis said. Firefighters responded and found the building was without power.
SCE&G responded and wasn’t able to restore power, Lewis said. “It was some kind of malfunction from the hotel's end,” he said.
Firefighters evacuated the building, and hotel staff helped folks find other lodging nearby, Lewis said. The fire department left the scene at about 5:30 a.m. No injuries were reported during the evacuation.
