A 4-year-old girl was hit by a bullet Saturday night in what is being called a “completely random” drive-by shooting in the 3700 block of Anwood Street on the Pinelakes Community - between Leesburg Road and Garners Ferry Road - in southeast Richland County.
The child was sitting in a car with one parent while the other parent was in the house to visit relatives around 7:30 pm, Sgt. Kevin Lawrence of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said. “It does not appear that the residence was the target of the drive-by,” Lawerence added.
Witnesses told investigators that shots rang out as two vehicles - a blue SUV and a gold sedan - drove by the car where the child was sitting. The two vehicles then fled the area.
The child was driven by her parents five miles to the Dorn VA Medical Center where she was treated for the gunshot wound that was described as “non-life-threatening.”
