ORANGEBURG, SC The 31-year-old ex-boyfriend of a mother of five is in custody after she was stabbed to death at her Elloree area home, Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenel said Friday.
The stabbing death of the woman, who authorities have not yet identified, took place Friday morning in her house with the two youngest children inside, Ravenel said. The other three children were en route to school.
Formal charges have not yet been placed.
Omar Profit, of Holly Hill, is in the Orangeburg County jail and will have an arraignment on March 9.
A press release by Ravenel’s office said Profit was the father of two of the mother’s five children but he and the mother “were no longer in a relationship.” Because they had children in common, the press release characterized the incident as “demestic violence.”
“It is unfortunate that five children lost their mother this morning in a senseless act of violence in such a tragic and violent manner,” Ravenel said.
Sheriff’s deputies received a call to go to the woman’s house at 7:17 a.m. Friday. On arrival, officials found the woman suffering from a fatal stab wound. A two-hour manhunt located Profit with a mile of the house, a press release said.
The house where the woman lived is in the Elloree section of the county, not far from Lake Marion and Santee State Park.
