Sonya Leigh Tidwell, 28, of Sumter, was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful neglect of a child.

Tidwell was reported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office by the Department of Social Services on Aug. 29 when Tidwell’s newborn baby reportedly tested positive for marijuana at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

According to the arrest warrant, Tidwell smoked marijuana “continually” during her pregnancy between Nov. 1, 2012, and Aug. 27, 2013, which put the child at an “unreasonable risk of harm.”

It did not say who now has custody of the child.
