16-year-old charged in shooting at Columbia apartments

UPDATED: Officials say a 16-year-old male has been charged in connection with Sunday night's shooting in which a 14-year-old girl was critically injured at a Columbia apartment building.
The juvenile is charged with unlawful possession of a pistol.
The Columbia Police Department continues to investigate the shooting, which is believed to be accidental.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. at the Latimer Manor Apartments on Lorick Circle, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Timmons said.
Officers responded to the shooting after reports of gunfire were called into 911.
The victim, who does not live at Latimer Manor, was taken to a local hospital, Timmons said.
The victim remains in serious condition.
