Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Vashon Cunningham, 20, was arrested Sunday at his residence and charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. In addition, police charged the victim of the robbery after finding marijuana at the residence.

Police say the arrest comes after a Nov. 9 home invasion at 303 Saluda River Road. Cunningham and the resident of the home got into a physical altercation after Cunningham presented a gun. Multiple shots were fired, one of which struck the victim in the upper body.

According to Sheriff Lott, Cunningham then stole the wallet, credit cards and cash from the victim’s friend who pretended to be dead from one of the fired shots. He was not injured.

Lott said Cunningham left the area after entering the house to steal more items.

When deputies arrived, the victim’s wife would not allow them to enter the home. Deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana from inside and saw marijuana in the foyer. Police said a search warrant was issued, and marijuana was found in multiple places of the home.

Sheriff Lott said Cunningham was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, and the victim will be charged upon release from the hospital.
