The City of Columbia Police Department has found the man who escaped custody Wednesday morning after being arrested for DUI.
A Columbia Police Department officer and a Richland County Sheriff's Department Deputy located Sidney Eugene Mitchell, 32, inside a vacant house near Bluff Road.
The department's spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said Mitchell allegedly tried to run away again, but was unsuccessful. Mitchell was arrested Tuesday night and escaped from the jail sometime around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday Timmons said.
Timmons said sometime after Mitchell was taken to the jail, he began acting erratically and appeared to need medical attention for an unspecified issue. EMS was called, and Mitchell managed to escape during this time.
Mitchell is described as a bald man with a beard who is around 6’3” and 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and no shirt.
