Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of the person who died after being shot last night in Columbia.

Roderick Eugene Harris Jr., 26, was shot just before midnight Sunday during a domestic dispute in the 5700 block of Randall Avenue. Watts said Harris died after being transported to Palmetto Health hospital from complications of a gunshot wound to the upper body.

According to the Columbia Police Department, Harris broke into the Randall Avenue Extension apartment of his ex-girlfriend Sunday.

The ex-girlfriend told police she had ended her relationship with Roderick and he threatened to physically harm her and her current boyfriend.

The woman also told police Harris began arguing with her ex-boyfriend and charged at him. The woman’s current boyfriend then pulled out a gun and shot Harris.

Police said the shooter initially left the scene but turned himself in and is cooperating.
