Three arrested in Lexington County for burglary, stealing firearms

Three Lexington County men suspected of breaking into homes and stealing firearms and other items have been arrested, officials say.

Colin Tyler Soles, 18, of Lexington, and Zachary Rabon Varney, 19, of Batesburg-Leesville, were arrested on two counts each of first-degree burglary, one count each of second-degree burglary and one count each of criminal conspiracy, said Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts in a statement released Sunday.

A third suspect, 17, was also arrested on the same charges, Metts said.

The three men allegedly broke into two homes and attempted to break into a third home near Lexington.

According to arrest warrants, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Friday the three suspects forced open the rear door of a home on Turtle Cove Court where they stole a .357-caliber revolver, a 9-mm semi-automatic handgun and a 12-gauge shotgun, Metts said. The firearms were worth a combined total of $1,000.

Arrest warrants also allege between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday the three men forced open the rear door of a home on Hatton Lane where they stole two firearms, one iPad tablet and two cameras, Metts said.

Detectives later recovered some of the firearms and equipment from a vehicle in which the three were riding. Arrest warrants further allege that at about 3:11 p.m. on Friday the three tried to force open the rear door of a home on Brandon Court.

The homeowner was home at the time of the attempted burglary and reported the incident to the Sheriff’s Department, Metts said. In addition, the homeowner was able to provide a description of the red Ford Explorer sport-utility the men drove away in.

The men were pulled over about one mile from the home shortly after the attempted burglary at Brandon Court and were later identified, Metts said.

All three suspects were being held Sunday at the Lexington County Detention Center on bail totaling $320,000 for each inmate.

Anyone with information about this incident or the suspects is asked to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (888) Crime-SC.
