The knife believed to have been used this week to kill a Dutch Fork High School senior has been located, buried in the yard of the accused killer’s neighbor.

Kierin Dennis, a 2013 Lexington High School graduate, was charged with murder following the fatal Monday night stabbing of Da’Von Capers, 17.

Dennis, who is being held without bond at the Lexington County Detention Center, told Lexington Police investigators on Thursday they could find the knife used buried in the back yard of a neighbor’s house. Investigators visited the home in a Lexington County neighborhood and located the weapon, according to Lt. Matt Davis with the Lexington Police Department.

Capers was stabbed outside of a Lexington business following a tense basketball game between the two teams. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office on Thursday said he was stabbed in the chest, suffered heart and liver damage and bled to death.

According to the incident report released Friday morning by the Lexington Police Department, police were called by a woman waiting in the drive-through line of the Cook-Out at 515 W. Main St., Lexington. She said she saw a “bunch of people” running towards a vehicle in the parking lot and thought a fight was about to happen.

When officers arrived, between 15 and 20 witnesses reported someone had been stabbed. Other vehicles were leaving the parking lot and the responding officer attempted to stop them from leaving. Witnesses told police said Capers had been stabbed in the chest by a suspect who left in a tan Ford Explorer, according to the report.

Capers, unconscious, was located by police in a pick-up truck in the parking lot of the nearby Urgent Care facility. Medical officials tried to stabilize him until he could be transported to Lexington Medical Center, where he died.
