A 25-year-old man who escaped custody on Tuesday afternoon has been captured.
Justin Kyle Jenkins, who was held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on larceny and shoplifting charges, was able to ecape a locked room at Columbia Police Department headquarters. He was being interviewed by an investigator prior to the escape, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
He was captured a short time later in Elmwood Cemetery.
Jenkins, who was handcuffed to a desk in an interview room that was locked from the outside, was left unattended for a short period of time. When the investigator returned, he was not there.
Columbia police searched the entire building, and members of the K9 Team have searched various places outside of the building. When Jenkins escaped, he was not armed.
