An arrest has been made in connection with an early morning shooting outside of a Richland County restaurant.

Richard Patterson, 26, has been charged with two counts of murder, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said.

Patterson is one of three people who were shot after a verbal altercation escalated at Mobay Caribbean Restaurant and Grill on Parklane Road, according to Sgt. Curtis Wilson, a Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

Sgt. Wilson said the incident happened around 4:15 a.m. when a group of people started arguing inside the restaurant then two men went outside.

“One of the men fired multiple shots at the other,” Sgt. Wilson said. “An on-duty security guard, who tried to break up the fight, was hit by a bullet.”

Both suspects and the security guard were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Sgt. Wilson said.

Patterson will be transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center upon his release from the hospital, Sheriff Lott said.
