None of the 36 middle school children on board a Richland County School District 2 school bus were injured Monday morning when the bus collided with another vehicle, the S.C. Highway Patrol reported.
The children, who were headed to E.L. Wright Middle School, were put on another bus and taken to school, district spokeswoman Libby Roof said.
“It was just a minor bump-up,” Roof said. “The school has sent a message notifying parents of what happened and saying that everybody is safe and sound.”
The bus driver and the driver of the car, a Chrysler PT Cruiser, that caused the collision were also unhurt, said trooper Lance Cpl. David Jones.
The pre-dawn collision happened around 6:45 a.m. at North Brickyard and Two Notch roads, Jones said.
It was the fault of the driver of the Chrysler driver, who made an improper lane change and struck the school bus lightly, Jones said.
Neither vehicle sustained any significant damage, he said.
The Chrysler driver was not ticketed in the incident, he said.
Giving a ticket is up to the discretion of the trooper on the scene, and there were likely circumstances surrounding the incident that caused the trooper not to issue a ticket, Jones said.
E.L. Wright Middle School, 2740 Alpine Rd., is located just off where I-77 intersects with Two Notch Road and is about three miles west of where the crash took place.
