A 5 p.m. rally Sunday at Finlay Park will kick off the City of Columbia’s 11th annual National Youth Violence Prevention Week.
At that time, there will be a candlelight vigil for peace. This is a memorial calling for an end to the violence in Columbia.
Speakers will include victims and the families that have been affected by youth violence.
The event is sponsored by the city parks and recreation staff.
Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine initiated the City’s involvement.
Youth Violence Prevention Week activities continue on Monday, April 7, 2014 with the Violence Prevention Fair at the Earlewood Park Community Center, located at 1113 Parkside Dr., from 6-8 p.m.
There will be dozens of agencies and organizations will provide information on a range of programs, resources, activities and events that are available to our youth.
