Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said a man found dead in the Broad River in late April has been positively identified as Leroy Pollard Jr.
The coroner’s office asked for help Monday identifying the man.
"After the release was sent Monday, our office received numerous calls that resulted in locating the family of Mr. Pollard in Columbia and making a positive identification," Watts said.
Watts said Monday a preliminary investigation identified the man as Leroy Pollard Jr., a 41-year-old black man who last lived at 325 Spears Creek Road. Pollard possibly worked for the Veterans Administration and had a wife or ex-wife in the Columbia area.
Watts had been unable to identify any relatives to positively identify the man, who was believed to have jumped from the Broad River bridge over Interstate 20 on April 22. The body was discovered five days later.
