17-year-old Columbia man charged with attempted murder

A 17-year-old Columbia man was charged Friday with attempted murder following a shooting on Thursday, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said in a news release.

Rodney Friday allegedly shot a male victim Thursday night around 9 p.m. on the 100 block of Gingeroot Way in a neighborhood of single family homes off Farrow Road and south of Interstate 20.

Witnesses told police investigators that after an argument developed among a large group of people gathered on Gingeroot Way, Friday approached and fired at the victim. The victim did not sustain life-threatening injuries, Holbrook said.

Friday was charged with attempted murder and unlawfully carrying and possessing a firearm by a person under 21 years of age, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Friday night.
