An incident involving a stand-off between an armed person barricaded in a home at Brennen  and Trenholm roads and the Columbia Police Department is over.

An individual was found inside the home with “what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said on the CPD Twitter account.

The Richland County coroner has been called to the scene of what was a tense standoff.

Columbia police are on the scene of a barricade situation at the corner of Brennen and Trenholm roads.

Traffic is being diverted from Trenholm Road as officers work “on a peaceful resolution” to a situation involving what is believed to be one person, who is armed, hold up in a house.

Although there is not thought to be any immediate threat, the public is being asked to avoid the area ‘out of an abundance of caution,” said police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons on the CPD Twitter account.

More details will be reported as they become available.
