Richland County Sheriff’s deputies say a suspect wanted for attempted murder has turned himself in to authorities.
Joseph Nayquan Kelly, 19, turned himself in around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Sheriff Leon Lott.
Lott said officers responded after someone drove their vehicle into a tree around 11 p.m. June 24 on Faison Drive.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined that the 28-year-old male victim suffered a gun shot wound to the upper body,” Lott said.
Investigators questioned the victim who told them he had been smoking marijuana with Kelly at Torwood and Swandale Drive when a verbal altercation became physical, Lott said.
“Kelly shot the victim then fled the area on foot,” Lott said.
Lott said the victim attempted to drive himself to the hospital, lost consciousness and crashed into a tree.
The victim, who was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, is recovering, according to Lott.
Kelly has been taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
