Sumter police are looking for a suspect involved in a shooting that occurred earlier this week, officials say.

Brandon Haynesworth, 28, is wanted on an attempted murder charge and should be considered armed and dangerous, officials with the Sumter Police Department said in a statement released Thursday.

Haynesworth is wanted after police responding to a “shots fired” call at about 8 p.m. in Sumter Tuesday found a man lying in the road on Sampson Street.

Patrick Simon, 21, of Bowen Drive, had been shot and was taken to Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Simon was later transferred to a Columbia hospital, where he remains in good condition. His injuries appear to be non-life-threatening, officials said.

Earlier he was seen sitting on the porch of a home in the neighborhood where he was shot. What led to the shooting is not known.

The Sumter Police Department is continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information or who might know of Haynesworth’s whereabouts is asked to call the department at (803) 436-2700 or CrimeStoppers at (803) 436-2718. Calls to CrimeStoppers can be made anonymously. Those providing information leading to an arrest or conviction could be eligible for an award.
