Sumter man arrested in series of cigarette thefts

SUMTER, SC A Crime Stopper tip and surveillance video led Sumter authorities to charge Thomas Tony Bradley, 43, of Sumter with a series of convenience store burglaries that targeted Newport cigarettes for theft.

Bradley was arrested Friday after a brief foot chase, Sumter Police and the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department said in a joint press release.

In all, Bradley is suspected in 5 after-hour break-ins - three in the city of Sumter, two in Sumter County - where a total of $4,000 in mostly Newport cigarettes were stolen. Two other similar break-ins are under investigation and may be tied to Bradley, authorities said.
