Officials have identified the remains found in a corn field off Farm Field Road in Holly Hill earlier this month.
The remains have been identified as 26-year-old Adelso Corado Barrientos, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
“Our investigation indicates Barrientos lived in North Charleston and had aquaintances in Orangeburg,” Ravenell said.
Police said the body was discovered after a citizen working in the area along Farm Field Road on July 8 located a shoe in a ditch.
“A concerned citizen smelled the stench of something decaying,” Ravenell said. “The individual followed the stench and located a shoe in a ditch. The person called law enforcement, and upon our arrival, we located human remains behind a bush.”
The investigation of Barrientos’ death continues, Ravenell said.
